Chef’s knife

Chef’s knife

A chef’s (cook’s) knife has a large rigid blade that can measure 15–30 cm in length. The blade can be made from stainless steel or ceramic.

The central part of a chef’s knife lets you cut, slice, and chop relatively hard vegetables. The tip can be used to slice softer vegetables, while the heel is useful for cutting very hard ingredients. The back of the blade lets you break shells or bones, and the flat of the blade can be used to crush garlic.
