Commercial zesters come in the form of a plastic handle with a stainless steel tip with five small, sharp rings at the end that lift off the zest. Certain zesters have their rings on the side. There are now two-in-one zesters available that can be used for zesting in addition to being a lemon decorator.
Zest a lime over fruit salad or skewered scallops to enhance. Candied orange zest can flavor a cake or orange marmalade.
Hold the zester against the skin of a citrus fruit, then scrape downward while pressing firmly. The zest will be pushed out through the different rings.
